Cross-references
In Joshua 22:29, the speakers deny rebellion and affirm loyalty to the Lord's altar. This directly echoes their self-curse in verse 23 as further assurance.
1 Samuel 20:16 uses the same 'may the Lord take vengeance' formula in a covenant context — mirroring the self-imprecation here.
2 Chronicles 24:22 records Zechariah crying 'May the Lord see and avenge' — analogous to the invocation of divine judgment here.
In Job 31:22, Job invokes a self-curse of physical injury if he has sinned. Similarly, Joshua 22:23 calls for God's vengeance if they have rebelled. Both are conditional self-imprecations.
In Psalm 44:21, the psalmist says God knows hidden secrets. Joshua 22:23 implies God knows their true motives and will act. Both rely on God's omniscience.
