Proverbs 31:6

Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.

Cross-reference

Jeremiah 16:7 withholds the 'cup of consolation' from mourners — the direct opposite of giving wine to the distressed.

In Psalm 104:15, wine is God’s gift to gladden the heart — consistent with the instruction here to give wine to the distressed as a comfort.

In 1 Timothy 5:23, Paul advises using a little wine for medical ailments — similar to Proverbs commanding wine for the perishing as a remedy.
