Nehemiah 5:14 Historical context

Nehemiah 5:14 states he never ate the governor's food allowance for twelve years, directly supporting why he didn't demand it in 5:18.

Nehemiah 5:15 contrasts former governors who burdened the people with Nehemiah's refusal to take the allowance, highlighting his selflessness.

In 1 Thessalonians 2:9, Paul works night and day to not burden believers; Nehemiah similarly forgoes his allowance to lighten the people's load.

1 Kings 4:22 lists Solomon's daily provisions of flour and meal; Nehemiah's daily meat and wine parallel this royal provisioning, though on a smaller scale.

1 Kings 4:23 continues Solomon's lavish menu with fat oxen, sheep, and fowl; Nehemiah's simpler list of one ox, six sheep, and poultry echoes but contrasts in scale.
