Matthew 4:25 introduces the great crowds that followed Jesus before the sermon; these same crowds now follow him down the mountain.

Matthew 5:1 is the same mountain — Jesus went up to teach, and here he comes down. The two verses bookend the Sermon on the Mount.

In John 6:2, crowds follow Jesus because they see his healing signs — the same motivation as the crowd here.
