Genesis 35:15

And Jacob called the name of the place where God spake with him, Beth–el.

Cross-reference

In Genesis 28:19, Jacob first names the place Bethel after God appears to him there. Genesis 35:15 reaffirms that same name when God speaks again.

In Genesis 28:22, Jacob vowed the pillar would be God's house. His naming of Bethel in 35:15 fulfills that vow as he returns to consecrate the site.

In Genesis 28:13, God promised Jacob the land. Jacob naming the place Bethel here recognizes God's faithfulness in speaking with him again at that same spot.
