Genesis 31:38–42 Historical context

In 31:38-42, Jacob expands this claim of faithful service with vivid detail — sleepless nights, scorching heat, and stolen livestock.

In 30:29, Jacob tells Laban the same thing — 'you know how I have worked for you' — in an earlier negotiation about wages.

In Genesis 30:26, Jacob makes the same claim directly to Laban: 'thou knowest my service which I have done thee.' Jacob is restating this to his wives.

In 1 Peter 2:18, servants are told to submit even to froward masters — Jacob's service to the often-unfair Laban is a living example of this.

In Ephesians 6:7, servants are told to serve 'with good will, as to the Lord' — the kind of wholehearted devotion Jacob claims in his service to Laban.
