Genesis 24:8

And if the woman will not be willing to follow thee, then thou shalt be clear from this my oath: only bring not my son thither again.

Cross-reference

In Genesis 24:4, Abraham commands the servant to seek a wife from his own kindred — the very condition whose difficulty prompts the release in this verse.

In Genesis 24:5, the servant asks the exact question this verse answers — what if the woman won't come? Abraham's release is his direct response.

In Genesis 24:41, Abraham restates the exact same release condition — the servant will be free from the oath if the family refuses to let the woman go. A direct echo.

In Genesis 24:6, Abraham already commands not to take Isaac back. Verse 8 builds on this by granting the servant release from the oath if the woman refuses, while reaffirming the ban on Isaac's return.

Joshua 9:20 Contrast

In Joshua 9:20, leaders must honor an oath made under deception — contrasting with Abraham's foresight in preemptively releasing his servant.
