Genesis 13:1 places Abram entering the Negev from Egypt; from there he now journeys back north to Bethel.

Genesis 12:6 records Abram's first entry into Canaan at Shechem. Genesis 13:3 returns him to Bethel — revisiting the land God first showed him.

Genesis 12:8 is when Abram first pitched his tent between Bethel and Ai and built an altar — now he returns to that exact spot.
